Eleven Eleven Presents is a company founded out of love, creativity, and a sense of community. It’s a story that began November 11, 2009. On that day, a recently separated man stepped on stage in Madison, WI and began a journey. It was his first time on stage as a comic, but he was hooked. His name is Dave.
He visited open mic nights around Milwaukee as often as he could. Dave, being single father of two small children and holding a full time job, struggled to find time to practice his craft. After all, you can’t support a family being an amateur comedian.
In June of 2010, Dave met a woman. She had a family and was driven to write. Although she’d never written stand up before, she’d been writing creatively on her own since she was a little girl. Plus, she had a great sense of humor. The two began producing shows in July of 2011. On November 11, 2011 Brigid and Dave joined families and began the dream that is Eleven Eleven Presents. Together the two wrote jokes, fell in love, and built a family. They both realized there was a need to bring some fame to this community of struggling comics.
It started as an idea on a large blackboard in Brigid and Dave’s kitchen with a bottle of wine, and Dave’s former neighbor Jason, an MBA and an accomplished businessman. It was the budding of an idea to bring to light all of the amazing comics they had met along their path. In their travels, they had found an abundance of incredibly funny people at places like Byron Beck’s Kick Me Comedy at Rounding Third. They met the life blood of the independent Milwaukee comedy scene. Plus they added a brilliant designer to bring a professional touch to the posters and website, Mark, Dave’s roommate from college.
Dave, a consummate salesman began contacting 88.9, sponsors, and homegrown businesses to support the efforts of this Milwaukee born idea. He got 88.9 to jump on the team, as well as the Pabst Theater/Turner Hall and the pieces began to fall into place. He landed G-Daddy’s BBC as a prime downtown venue and then began work on this website.
What you are currently viewing is the blood, sweat, and tears of a team of people who have dedicated their lives to bringing laughter to the world. The job of a comedian is a grueling one. It means smiling through the worst heckling imaginable and even worse, silence. It’s time these voices gained a greater audience. Please visit our website frequently during the contest and view the new comedians we’ll post every week. Then in January 2013, please return when we officially begin to post shorts and stand up from the independent comics that have and will continue to make us laugh.
